TinCaps Announce Roster Moves: June 26th

(June 26, 2013) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps, in conjunction with the San Diego Padres, announced the following roster moves today:

RHP Leonel Campos transferred from Fort Wayne to Double-A San Antonio. The 25-year-old Campos is 2-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 28 appearances, and leads the team with 63 strikeouts. In 36 1/3 innings, he has allowed nine earned runs, 19 hits, and walked 22. His .150 batting average against was best in the league for relievers, as was his 15.61 strikeout per nine-inning ratio.

RHP Michael Kelly transferred from Fort Wayne to Short-Season A Eugene. Kelly, 20, was transferred to Fort Wayne from extended spring training on May 14. In 15 appearances in a TinCaps uniform this season, he went 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA, walking 12 and striking out 16 in 18 innings of work. He allowed 10 earned runs and 17 hits.

RHP Adys Portillo placed on the disabled list. The 21-year-old Portillo made three starts with the TinCaps this season, going 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 9 1/3 innings.

RHP Colin Rea transferred from Advanced-A Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne. Rea, 22, was on Lake Elsinore’s opening day roster after spending the entire 2012 campaign with Fort Wayne. This season with Lake Elsinore, Rea, who was selected out of Indiana State in the 12th round of the 2011 draft by San Diego, is 0-5 with a 6.07 ERA in 15 games (9 starts). In 43 innings, he has struck out 45, walked 39, allowed 29 earned runs and 43 hits. Last year with the TinCaps in 31 appearances (19 starts), he went 5-10 with a 4.11 ERA. In 103 innings, Rea struck out 80, walked 47, and allowed 106 hits.

RHP Trevor Gott transferred from Short-Season A Eugene to Fort Wayne. Gott, 20, was selected this year in the sixth round of the draft out of the University of Kentucky. During his three seasons at the school, the Lexington, Kentucky, native, Gott acquired the school’s career and single-season saves marks. He saved 23 games in his career, with a record-breaking 12 his junior season. Over his three-year career, he appeared in 69 games with a 9-5 record and 2.30 ERA, striking out 107 batters in 82 1/3 innings. With Eugene this year, he appeared in four games going 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 4 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking three.

RHP Jorge Guzman transferred from Short-Season A Eugene to Fort Wayne. The 23-year-old native of Bani, Dominican Republic, was signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2008 by San Diego. This season with Eugene, his first in the United States, he has thrown five scoreless innings in four games, striking out seven and walking none.

Roster numbers are to be assigned.

Fort Wayne’s roster stands at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.
