Suspicious Activity Investigation

Date/Time of Incident: June 25, 2013

Location of Incident: 1300 S. Harrison

Detained Subject: Adult Male

On June 25, 2013, officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the United States Federal Courthouse located at 1300 S. Harrison to assist the United States Marshal’s with an investigation of suspicious activity. An adult male subject acted in a suspicious manner as he attempted to enter the courthouse. The adult subject then dropped a bundle covered by clothing. Officers spoke with the subject and he was detained as part of the investigation. The bundle had been dropped near the entrance located at the northeast corner of the building.

A perimeter was created a safe distance from this bundle. Traffic was shut off along S. Harrison between Douglas and Brackenridge.

The Explosives Ordinance Disposal unit was contacted and arrived to assist. Officers assigned to this unit arrived and determined that the bundle did not contain any objects with destructive potential. The area was released for normal traffic.

The subject was released at the scene. No state level charges are expected to be filed against the subject who was detained.
