Fatal Hit-Skip Accident

Incident Date: 05/27/2013

Incident Time: 11:48 P.M.

Incident Location: 3400 W. Coliseum Blvd

Victim: Adult Male / Deceased

(May 28, 2013) – On Monday, May 27, 2013, at 11:48 P.M., the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 3400 block of W. Coliseum Blvd on a report of a man down in a parking lot, called in by a passerby. Officers arrived and located an adult male who was unconscious and unresponsive. The male was subsequently pronounced deceased by medics with the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.

At this time, it is believed that the unidentified male was walking westbound through the parking lot, when he was struck by a large vehicle that was pulling into the parking lot. The vehicle then left the scene.

It is currently unknown what type of vehicle was involved, nor if the driver of the vehicle was aware of the accident. It is also unknown if the accident was intentional, if the pedestrian made any attempts to avoid being struck, or if any alcohol played a role. It is also currently undetermined how long the deceased had been lying there before being discovered.

Investigators are currently searching the scene for any evidence, possible witnesses, or any video surveillance from any of the nearby businesses. Anyone who was in the area and may have seen something is encouraged to contact police.

The identity of the deceased, as well as the exact cause and manner of death, will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

The 3400 block of W. Coliseum Blvd. remained closed to all traffic while the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (F.A.C.T) investigated the incident and processed the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
