Barr Street Market to be scene of multiple events this summer
(May 20, 2013) – The Barr Street Market at the corner of Wayne and Barr Streets in downtown Fort Wayne will be bustling again this summer with activities.
Beginning May 25, the popular farmer’s market sponsored by Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana will open for the season and run each Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of vendors offer fresh produce, baked goods, cheeses and other food products as well as jewelry, crafts and other activities for adults and children.
Admission to the History Center is free during the market hours and once each month special tours and photo opportunities will be available for visiting the museum. More information will be posted on the organization’s website and Facebook page.
June 11 is the History Center’s annual Brown Bag on Barr. Local businessman Chuck Surack will be honored for his contributions to the History Center and Fort Wayne.
The free event, which takes place over the lunch hour from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., is an opportunity to enjoy one of downtown’s historic spots in an informal setting. Persons attending are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch from home or take advantage of the several restaurants within a block of the History Center. This year, food vendor trucks are also being asked to park near the market for this event.
Sweetwater Sound Founder and President Chuck Surack remarked, “It’s a real honor to be recognized by the History Center. It’s vitally important for local businesses to support our arts, culture, and social service organizations and we’re proud to be one of the many businesses in this community who show that support. Also, as the owner of a business near downtown, I am particularly interested in supporting downtown organizations like the History Center, the Embassy Theatre, Arts United, and so many others.”
The History Center will be open over the lunch hour June 11 with free admission and the opportunity to experience the Sweetwater Sound display in the new “Allen County Innovation” exhibition gallery and learn more about the use of the newly restored Shields Room for business functions.
