Dust Control Work on County Roads Begins Monday
Motorists asked to drive with caution on treated highways(May 9, 2013) — As work to place dust control materials on some county highways begins next week, the Allen County Highway Department has some advice for persons who will be traveling on those roads.
Motorists should drive with caution on roads that receive an application of the black dust control material. When freshly applied, the material can create a slick surface for vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed. It can take from one to five days for the material to dry completely depending upon the weather and the condition of the road prior to application.
Motorists who encounter a highway department crew applying the dust control product are asked to give the employees plenty of room to do their work. Materials will be applied on highways in two treatments and will span the full width of the road.
If you notice that the black material has gotten onto your vehicle, you should first use a quality bug or tar remover. After that, wash the vehicle with an auto detergent or follow the instructions in your vehicle’s manual for removing tar. Neither the highway department nor its product vendor are legally liable for any damage caused to your vehicle from the dust control products used on the county roads.
