News release from the American Red Cross:

Red Cross Seeking Volunteers
If you like helping people, the Red Cross is the place for you.

(April 30, 2013) – The Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to assist with blood drives in the area. Volunteers are needed to help with registration and refreshments both at the Fort Wayne Donor Center and various mobile blood drives throughout Allen and Wells Counties.

The Red Cross is also encouraging people who have been thinking about volunteering to take the plunge. People wanting to make a difference should contact the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross to learn more about getting involved.

Volunteers are central to the work of the American Red Cross in communities across the country, as on average, the Red Cross has 15 volunteers for every one employee. Volunteers are especially needed to serve as drivers transporting donors to blood drives as well as delivering life-saving blood to area hospitals. Training is provided and flexibility in scheduling is offered.

Red Cross volunteers are united by their service and the feeling that in changing others’ lives, their lives are also changed. To volunteer, contact the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region, Volunteer Services office at (260) 480-8218 or pam.schroeder@redcross.org.

About the American Red Cross
The Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region serves northern and central Indiana and northwestern Ohio, and needs to collect about 500 units of blood a day to meet patient need in 60 hospitals. In addition to supplying nearly half of the nation’s blood, the American Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills, provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization—not a government agency—and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
