IPFW Professor Selected to Attend Sustainable Engineering Workshop
(April 1, 2013) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Associate Professor of Engineering Don Mueller is one of only 30 educators selected from across the country to attend the Center for Sustainable Engineering’s (CSE’s) workshop this June.
The workshop takes place June 27-28 at Georgia Institute of Technology (better known as Georgia Tech) in Atlanta. Participants are selected through a competitive application process and must be employed full time as a faculty member in an engineering department at a four-year college or university with an undergraduate engineering program.
According to the CSE website, “The workshop will include a number of interactive and hands-on sessions conducted by leading faculty members in sustainable engineering. The sessions will address concepts in sustainable engineering, ways to incorporate these concepts into courses, discussions of sustainable engineering education at schools across the country, federal programs for research and education funding in sustainable engineering, and building a community of educators in this emerging topic.”
Mueller is excited to attend the conference. “As an engineering educator, this workshop will give me the tools to bring more sustainable engineering concepts into my classes. With populations continuing to grow and resources becoming more scarce, sustainable engineering principles will help us make decisions that not only preserve the resources we have, but to find new and better ways in which to use them,” said Mueller.
CSE is a partnership between Syracuse University, Arizona State University, Carnegie-Mellon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Texas at Austin and is dedicated to helping engineering professors update their courses and develop news ones to account for rapidly changing world conditions that are transforming the practice of engineering.
