Bank Robbery Investigation

(April 15, 2013) – On Monday, April 15, 2013 at approximately 8:57 a.m. the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the Power 1 Federal Credit Union at 1520 Spy Run Avenue reference a report of a bank robbery.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a female employee was ambushed as she was entering the credit union by two males, one of which she believed was armed with a handgun. The perpetrators pushed her into the building and forcefully pushed her to the ground at which time she sustained an injury to her face. There was a second employee already inside the credit union as well. The perpetrators fled the credit union with an unknown amount of cash.

As responding officers were approaching the area, an officer traveling northbound on Spy Run Avenue spotted a subject matching the description provided by the victim(s). When the officer attempted to make contact, that subject fled and a brief foot pursuit ensued. An apprehension was made near Baltes Avenue on Spy Run Avenue. A firearm was discovered on that subject. He is presently in police custody. During the course of the investigation, a second subject was immediately identified as being involved and he is also in police custody at this time.

A Canine Unit assisted at the scene, and Crime Scene Technicians processed the scene at the credit union, and they collected evidence at the site of the first apprehension at Baltes Avenue and Spy Run Avenue. This is an ongoing investigation and further update(s) will follow.

This incident remains under investigation by the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force. This task force is composed of investigators with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
