Kroger Honors Louisa Visocky as 2012 Community Service Award Winner
Selected from 136 nominees across five state operating division(April 8, 2013) – The Kroger Co.’s Central Division, headquartered in Indianapolis, has announced 16 Community Service Award Winners for 2012 who were selected from among 136 nominees submitted by each of the division’s 136 stores. Louisa Visocky, a pharmacist at Kroger’s 218 East Pettit store in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was selected as one of 16 winners for 2012.

Louisa is fluent in Spanish and uses her language proficiency every day to help Kroger customers. One third of her store’s customers speak Spanish and many do not speak English. Louisa also is very active in supporting the Burmese Chin community in the Fort Wayne region. On her own initiative, she begin learning Burmese using language tapes so she could better serve those customers and the local community and even helped label food items in the store in Burmese. She gathers donated supplies for the Burmese American Society and the Burmese Refugee Center, donating many items herself. She has acted as a volunteer translator for Burmese families when buying homes or other important transactions. She also acts as a mentor for several teenage Burmese girls, helping them adjust to life in Fort Wayne.
Louisa is was nominated by her store manager, Wade Voight.
