USF commencement speaker is alumnus, physician, educator
(April 4, 2013) – University of Saint Francis (USF) alumnus Keith March, M.D., Ph.D. will be the speaker for the university’s commencement exercises on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Dr. March is a professor of medicine, cellular and integrative physiology and biomedical engineering at the Indiana University School of Medicine and director of the Vascular and Cardiac Center for Adult Stem Cell Therapy and the Indiana Center for Vascular Biology and Medicine.
After graduating from Saint Francis College, now USF, as valedictorian with a 4.0 average in chemistry and biology, he earned a doctorate in chemistry from Indiana University and a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine, both with highest distinction. He earned numerous academic scholarships and awards, including the John H. Edwards Fellowship for Highest Distinction as a Graduate Student.
He consults for a broad range of medical businesses and has been a member of numerous professional organizations over the past 20 years. He is a fellow for the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, a member of the American Society of Gene Therapy and the board of directors for the International Federation of Adipose Therapeutics, and a medical adviser for the Cell Therapy Foundation.
Throughout his teaching career, he has mentored students in grant preparation and trained fellows and residents in research. He has organized and presented for scientific meetings, nationally and internationally and published broadly in textbooks and medical research journals.

Elise Kriss, OSF. “As a university alumnus, his accomplishment speaks directly to our historically rigorous science education, which prepares professionals for diverse occupations of global impact. It also pays homage to the Franciscan value of service at the base of all we do here. His is a particularly relevant message for our graduates as they begin their professional contributions.”
