Stutzman: “Washington Isn’t Just Broke—It’s Broken”
While House Passes Budget to Balance in Ten Years, Senate Considers Massive Tax Hike

(March 21, 2013) Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement today, after the House passed H. Con. Res 25, a reasonable, balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2014 and the Senate considers a $1 trillion tax hike.

“Hoosiers are fed up because Washington isn’t just broke—it’s broken. With fewer small businesses creating jobs and more than twelve million Americans unable to find work, Washington continues to tax and spend us deeper into this debt fueled jobs crisis. Hoosiers shouldn’t settle for more debt and downgrades.

“Today, my colleagues and I offered a reasonable budget to balance in ten years, keep more money in taxpayer pockets, and save Medicare for future generations. Hoosiers know that Washington must stop spending money it doesn’t have. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats have introduced an unserious proposal that drives us further and further into debt, never balances the budget, and saddles taxpayers with a $1 trillion tax hike.

“The choice is clear. We can fix our problems today by making the tough choices with the common-sense approach our budget takes or we can face the consequences of endless debt and higher taxes. Hoosiers deserve real solutions that solve our nation’s debt crisis and help the economy create jobs.”
