IPFW Staff Members Move to New Positions
(March 15, 2013) – Several Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) staff members will be moving to new positions in the coming weeks.
Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein has appointed Kimberly Wagner, current director of Alumni Relations at IPFW, as her new chief of staff effective April 1. Wagner has been with IPFW since 2004, when she was hired as a program assistant in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science. In 2005 she became the assistant director of the First Year Experience program. In 2008, she moved to her current position. Prior to working at IPFW, Wagner was the education/technical assistance coordinator with the Allen County Solid Waste Management District and a communications specialist with the American Red Cross. She has a bachelor of arts in media and public communication and a master of public affairs, both earned at IPFW. Wagner is involved in a number of community organizations, including Rotary and Junior League.
As chief of staff, Wagner will manage a wide range of matters of institutional importance in behalf of the Chancellor; work with the university community to advance and accelerate key strategic projects; coordinate the operations of the Chancellor’s office; and assist the chancellor through other duties as assigned.
“I am so pleased to welcome Kim as my chief of staff,” said Carwein. “She brings with her a wealth of knowledge about IPFW and the community and I know her talents will serve the university well.” Wagner is looking forward to her new responsibilities. “I am happy to say I’ve been a part of the IPFW “family” for nearly ten years and am proud to be appointed to this new position. Being a Fort Wayne native and two-time graduate at IPFW, I am very passionate about the university and its relationships in the community and will do all that I can to assist Chancellor Carwein in her endeavors both on and off campus.”
It was also announced today that Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs George S. McClellan’s title is now vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management. The change became effective March 1 and was done to reflect changes in reporting structures.
McClellan himself announced two staff changes. Krissy Creager’s appointment as director of the Student Life office is effective Monday, March 18. Creager has served as interim director since November 2012; she began her IPFW career in 2009 as associate director of student life. “It’s an incredibly exciting time in Student Affairs, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to focus on student engagement and success as the director of Student Life. There’s no greater privilege than to work with a team that puts students first and strives to support our student body in their development as the future leaders of our community,” said Creager.
Prior to coming to IPFW, Creager held positions at Seattle University, the University of Puget Sound, and Northern Arizona University. She has a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Education in student development administration from Seattle University.
James Velez joins the Student Life staff as the activities coordinator. He is currently an events coordinator with the Special Events office at IPFW, a position he has held since 2010. Velez said, “I am very excited to join the Student Life team. I plan to ‘hit the ground running’ as I work with the incredible students here at IPFW. We have
such great programs in the Student Life office, including more than 100 student organizations, annual events like the Dance Marathon, and The BIG Event, and I can’t wait to be a part of the team.”Before joining the IPFW staff Velez held positions with Verizon Telecommunications and the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Child Care Services Branch. He has a wide range of community event planning and producing experience, is executive director of Miss Northeast Indiana, a local preliminary pageant in the Miss America organization, and is
president of the Miss Indiana Local Director’s Association. Velez will complete his bachelors of arts in theatre at IPFW this summer.
