News release from the University of Saint Francis:
USF students excel in student Addy category
(February 21, 2013) – Graphic design and animation students in the University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts (SOCA) demonstrated their skills and conceptual abilities by winning 25 awards in the American Advertising Federation Fort Wayne Addy awards event Feb. 16. In addition to winning 10 Gold Addys and 12 Silver Addys, SOCA students also won the Student Category “Best in Show,” as well as two Judge’s Choice awards.
SOCA students assist AdFed on judging day by coordinating all of the entries and working with judges as they move through the day-long process of selecting the best work produced by Fort Wayne advertising agencies and companies. Students also separate all of the winning entries and work with local photographer Steve Vorderman in photographing the winners to publish them in the Winners’ Book. The day before the show, USF students display the more than 400 entries in an Addy Gallery for the enjoyment of Addy award event attendees. When the show is over, students take down the show and once again separate the winners to be sent on to the District Addy Awards Competition. “It’s a very time-consuming and detail-oriented process, and the students pull it off without a glitch,” said Alan Nauts, program director for graphic design at the university.
“Every year our students look forward to participating in this exciting event that showcases the best in advertising and design in Fort Wayne. Our American Advertising College Chapter is involved from the time judging starts until the Addy Gallery is taken down at the end of the show. We’re excited to not only participate in entering the student awards category, but also to assist AdFed Fort Wayne in putting on a fantastic show.
“This is the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work, and all of us in SOCA are very proud of our students’ accomplishments. We’re educating some of the most talented young men and women in the region, and we take that responsibility very seriously. These awards are a confirmation of the many talented, skilled, smart-thinking students we’ll be graduating from our school.”
Addy Award winners follow.
