Neuter for a nickel targets high impact areas

City of Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control will hold a one day Neuter for a Nickel outreach event on February 9th concentrating on six zip codes in which over 350 cats per area were turned into the shelter in 2012. The event, which runs on donations, will focus assistance to the six areas where the city has seen the highest impact of cats and litters surrendered to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.

Residents from 46802, 46805, 46806, 46808, 46815 and 46818 are eligible to schedule male cat neuter surgeries for up to seven male cats per household for five cents per cat.

Scheduling will begin January 7th on a first come basis by calling 260-427-1244. A valid ID will be required to verify residency in one of the six zip code areas being served. Each cat will be licensed to its address following surgery.

Neuter for a Nickel will be held at Animal Care & Control, 3020 Hillegas Road with surgeries provided by volunteer veterinarians. Only male cats will be served by the program to account for the volume expected during the event. To schedule an appointment or to make a donation, call 427-1244. Neuter for a Nickel is part of the 19th annual Spay Day USA celebrated by humane organizations nationwide during the month of February.
