Winter Storm Warning in effect, 12/25/2012, 22:38 update

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for our area:

…WINTER Storm will impact the area late tonight through Wednesday evening…

A strong low pressure system over Mississippi tonight will move northeast to Virginia on Wednesday night. Snow will expand northward through northern Indiana and northwest Ohio late tonight and Wednesday morning…and overspread south central lower Michigan late Wednesday morning. The snow will be heavy at times on Wednesday…especially along and southeast of the route 24 corridor…before quickly diminishing in intensity wednesday night. In addition to the snow…northeast winds will increase up to 25 mph with gusts between 30 and 35 mph…resulting in areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities.

Hazardous weather…

* Snow will overspread the area from the south early Wednesday morning. The snow will become heavy at times by midday Wednesday. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches are expected by late Wednesday night…with the heaviest snowfall amounts along and south of Hartford City Indiana to Ottawa Ohio line. The heaviest snow will fall during the day Wednesday. In addition…northeast winds will increase to 25 mph by early Wednesday…with gusts between 30 and 35 mph through Wednesday evening.

* the combination of snow and strong winds will result in areas of blowing and drifting snow…along with reduced
visibilities at times.

Impacts…

* snow and blowing and drifting snow will create hazardous holiday travel conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow…sleet…and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Snow will spread into the area late tonight. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect beginning at 4 am. Please refer to the latest winter weather message from our office for more details.

.DAYS Two through seven…WEDNESDAY Through Monday

A winter storm warning for heavy snow and blowing and drifting snow is in effect through 10 pm Wednesday. please refer to the latest winter weather message from our office for more details.

There is a chance of snow Friday night and Saturday.

.SPOTTER Information statement…

Spotter activation is not anticipated. However…REPORTS Of snow accumulations through Wednesday night will be appreciated.
