Press release from the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society:
Santa train return to Allen County
Over 50 years ago, Santa Claus arrived in Fort Wayne by train as part of the city’s annual Christmas celebrations. In 2012, a holiday tradition returns again to Allen County aboard the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society’s annual Santa Train.
From 10AM-4PM on December 15th, families can climb aboard a vintage train and visit with Santa for a 20 minute ride during the day for $4 per person. Families can also reserve a special evening Santa Charter for up to 15 people for an hour long trip with refreshments, classic holiday music, and gift giving for $200.00.
These special trains entertain over 2,000 passengers in three days annually. In response to demand, the railroad society has added additional seating to accommodate up to 40 passengers at a time and Bravas Foods will be on hand serving hot dogs.
The railroad historical society also has on display steam locomotive no. 765, which operates in passenger excursion service and public exhibition as an ambassador for the City of Fort Wayne. The locomotive recently completed a 3,000 mile trip around the midwest for the Norfolk Southern Railroad and is also at the center of a popular redevelopment proposal, Headwaters Junction.
