FWCS Offers Parent Meeting on Heather’s Law

(December 7, 2012) – Heather’s Law is a new state law requiring schools to teach students about teen dating violence and how to develop safe, appropriate relationships.

To help parents better understand what their students will be learning and learn what they should know about the warning signs of dating abuse, Fort Wayne Community Schools, with the assistance of the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, is offering a Safe Dates Parent Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Anthis Career Center, 1200 S. Barr St.

Megan Wilson of the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau will be the guest speaker, sharing with parents how to spot warning signs that a teen is in a dangerous relationship, how to talk to teens about safe dating and what support services are available in the community.

For parents unable to make this meeting, a second meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Anthis Career Center.
