Mayor Announces Three New and Unique Sports Tournaments Coming in 2013

(November 14, 2012) – In a joint effort to bring more sporting events to our community, Visit Fort Wayne and Mayor Tom Henry are proud to announce that three tournaments have agreed to host their 2013 events in Fort Wayne.

The U.S. Olympic Curling Arena Club National Championship, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association-Playoff Tournament and the Junior Volleyball Association Girls Midwest Power League Championships will call Fort Wayne home in 2013.

Tournament details are as followed:

  • 2013 U.S. Olympic Curling Arena Club National Championship – July 18-21 Lutheran Health SportsCenter (Fort Wayne Curling Club)
  • 2013 Women’s Flat Track Derby Association-Playoff Tournament – Sept. 6-8 Memorial Coliseum (Fort Wayne Derby Girls)
  • 2013 Junior Volleyball Association Girls Midwest Power League Championships – June 14-16 SportOne Parkview Fieldhouse (Midwest Power League)

The three events will bring more than 4,000 new visitors and an estimated $500,000 in economic impact to the community. This is the first time any of these events have been held in Fort Wayne. They come to our city due to the Special Grants Program funded by the City of Fort Wayne to help grow sports tourism in our community.

Fort Wayne beat out a handful of cities for these events, including Detroit, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis and Cleveland.

Visit Fort Wayne works every day to bring in events like these to our community so that local businesses and residents can benefit from the economic impact they provide.
