News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

STAR Corporate Service Day Takes to the Trails

Employees of STAR Bank will take to the trails on Monday, October 8, 2012 for the financial institution’s second annual community service day.

50 employees from STAR Bank will focus on the clean-up of the trails by clearing vegetation, trimming back branches and brush and removing debris in several locations along the Rivergreenway, near downtown Fort Wayne.

“Staff members from our Public Works and Parks departments maintain our trails year round, but with 68 miles of trails, the added assistance from volunteers like the STAR Bank employees is greatly appreciated,” said Dawn Ritchie, City of Fort Wayne Greenways Manager. “Corporate community service projects are important to the City, whether it’s the trails, a park or any agency in our community.”

Another 75 STAR Bank employees will be working at the Community Harvest Food Bank on Monday.

For the trail clean-up, the City is providing tools for use, such as loppers, tree saws, hand pruners, iron rakes, gloves and trash bags.

Tri-State Watershed Alliance and Friends of the Rivers member Dan Wire, assisted in picking locations for the clean-up.
