From a news release by TekVenture:

Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® 2012

The 2nd Annual Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® – Powered by TekVenture is a 2-day family-friendly event occurring October 6 (10-6 pm) & 7 (11-6 pm), 2011 at Headwaters Park East under the Lincoln Pavilion. The FWR Maker Faire® is born of a partnership with MAKE (https://makezine.com/), a quarterly magazine documenting the national maker movement.

“The Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire highlights creativity, ingenuity and craftsmanship in a fun and family friendly event. I enjoy the Maker Faire because it showcases everyday people doing wild and interesting things.  So much so that it inspired me to build the Twinkie Mobile which you will see around town throughout the summer”, said Scott Rizzo, local Maker.

The event is free to makers who might work with robotics, remote-controlled vehicles, rapid prototyping equipment, woodworking, green technologies, digital art, metalwork, fabric design, glassmaking, etc. Makers who want to sell to the public will be charged a small fee. Makers interested in participating should complete a Call for Makers (www.makerfairefortwayne.com.) as soon as possible as space is limited.

The FWR Maker Faire® is a forum for creative people who want to share the interesting things they’ve been building in their basements, garages, and backyards. Over 100 makers are anticipated to participate. The event is unique in that most exhibitors will actually be making something in their space. The goal is to create an environment where makers connect with one another and the general public can connect with the maker movement through these creative and innovative people while learning their problem-solving processes.

These “makers” represent a movement happening all across the United States. In the last few years, informal facilities like TekVenture which are designed to bring groups of people together to use traditional and high-tech tools to solve engineering problems and to create art, technology, and other projects have blossomed worldwide.
The event will include attractions to draw public interest; hands-on learning opportunities such as a soldering workshop and how to weld; seminars on pertinent topics; TinkerTown, a place for young makers 4 -14; food, and entertainment. Guest tickets will soon be available for purchase on Eventbrite.com.

We invite industry, economic development organizations, and the public to stimulate innovation in our region by helping TekVenture deliver the 2nd Annual Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® to showcase regional makers and raise funds for TekVenture.

The Ottenweller Company, The Downtown Improvement District, Even Keel Productions, ExitZero Communications, The City of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Metals, Metal Supermarkets, Visit Fort Wayne, and Best Buy are current confirmed event sponsors.

TekVenture is a public art and technology laboratory being developed in the near downtown area. The goal is to create a public intersection between imagination, technology, art & community – a space where artisans, tinkers, makers, engineers, inventors, prototypers, craftspeople, and others gather to use tools, share ideas and make things. In partnership with the Allen County Public Library, TekVenture (www.tekventure.org) is now operating in the Maker Station, a 50′ trailer housing a variety of tools where aspiring Makers may access prototyping tools while learning about the design to fabrication cycle.

MAKE is much like a 21st Century Popular Mechanics and is the first magazine devoted entirely to Do-It-Yourself (DIY) technology projects. The advantage of this partnership is to leverage the reach of Make through online and print exposure to its national audience of makers while connecting TekVenture and the NE Indiana region to the international maker scene.
