City Youth Centers Participate in Safe Haven Classic

(October 3, 2012) – The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s youth centers, Weisser, Cooper and Jennings, are participating in the Safe Haven Basketball Tournament October 12 – 13. The week’s activities begin with open houses at the three park sites and end with exciting basketball games at Lakeside Middle School, Prime Time Community Center and Greater Progressive Family Life Center.

The Safe Haven Basketball Tourney is open to boys 14 – 18 years of age. Each team will be guaranteed 3 games. Competitive teams from Fort Wayne and the Midwest, including some of the best high school basketball players in the area, will be participating.

The Safe Haven open houses will be held 6 – 7pm at the following locations:

October 9: Weisser Center, 802 Eckart St.

October 10: Cooper Center, 2300 S. Clinton St.

October 11: Jennings Center, 1330 McCulloch St.

The week culminates with the basketball tourney which begins on Friday at 6 pm and continues all day Saturday. The championship game will begin at 7 pm at Lakeside Middle School.

Safe Havens are located at Jennings Center, Cooper Center and Weisser Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Eagles Nest Youth Centre, the Euell A. Wilson Community Center, the Fort Wayne Urban League, Greater Progressive Family Life Center and Prime Time Community Center.
