History Center prepares for opening of new exhibition gallery

News release from The History Center:

History Center prepares for opening of new exhibition gallery

The History Center will officially open its new exhibition gallery to the public on Wednesday, October 10. Allen County Innovation is the first new gallery to be designed and built since the museum opened in 1980 in the former City Hall Building on the corner of Barr and Berry Streets in Fort Wayne.

The gallery features a look at the inventions and products created and produced in Allen County. Interactive displays will enhance the historic timelines and expanded artifacts on view. A major focus will be the history of magnet wire display featuring the products that have made Allen County the “Magnet Wire Capital” of the world.

The new gallery was funded by Rea Magnet Wire Company and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, with support from the Judith Clark-Morrill Foundation, Kuhne Foundation, Lincoln Financial Foundation, McMillen Foundation, O’Rourke-Schof Family Foundation, Salinger Family Foundation, Sweetwater Sound, Vera Bradley, and Waterfield Family Foundation

The History Center has incorporated stories about local entrepreneurs into its blog posts this summer. “History Center Notes and Queries” is available at https://historycenterfw.blogspot.com/.

Photos of the gallery construction have been posted to the History Center Facebook page to illustrate the work that is required to create a gallery space from start to finish.
