Scholar lecturing at USF for Constitution Day

(Aug. 27, 2012) – Johnathan O’Neill, author, editor and associate professor and chair of the Department of History at Georgia Southern University, will present a lecture on Monday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. in the University of Saint Francis North Campus Auditorium in recognition of Constitution Day.

O’Neill completed a doctorate at the University of Maryland in 2000. His lecture, “Executive Power in the U.S. Constitution: Law, Discretion, and Character,” will be based upon his extensive scholarship on the subject of Constitutional law.

He is the author of “Originalism in American Law and Politics: A Constitutional History,” published in 2005, and co-editor of a multi-author essay collection, “America and Enlightenment Constitutionalism,” published in 2006. His articles have appeared in the Review of Politics, Modern Law Review and the Northwestern University Law Review.

Articles related to his current research topic, “Constitutionalism and American Conservatism in the Twentieth Century,” have been published in Journal of Church and State; Rethinking History: The Journal of Theory and Practice; and The European Legacy: Toward New Paradigms.

The lecture is free and open to the campus and surrounding communities.
