News release from the University of Saint Francis:

USF awarded business school accreditation at conference

(July 26, 2012, BALTIMORE, Md.) – The University of Saint Francis (USF) was among 29 national and international member institutions awarded accreditation for its business school or programs at the 2012 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) annual conference in Baltimore, Md. in June. It was the 22nd annual such presentation since ACBSP’s founding 24 years ago.

“These institutions have shown their commitment to teaching excellence by their participation in the accreditation process and their achievement of accreditation,” said Douglas G. Viehland, ACBSP executive director. “ACBSP is proud to assist these schools and programs in their commitment to quality business programs. We recognize their educational practices that contribute to the continuous improvement of business education.”

The accreditation certifies an institution’s teaching and learning processes meet ACBSP’s rigorous educational standards. The accreditation covers a 10-year period, at which time an institution must reaffirm its quality by preparing a self-study and hosting another site visit. During the accreditation period, business programs are required to maintain the high quality standards of ACBSP.

“ACBSP commented favorably on the combination of experiential learning with academic rigor in all of our programs,” said Helen Murray, dean of the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership at USF. “Our CEO Forum was singled out as a best practice to be shared with other universities in the ACBSP family because it was a benefit to multiple constituents—students, faculty and the broader business community.”

ACBSP also cited impressive and committed support from the regional business community and the school’s board of advisers, and commended USF for its evident and strong commitment to the mission and to the Franciscan values that underlie that mission.

“We realize we are lucky to be part of a university with capable leadership, solid policies and procedures, and a bias toward stringent assessment of student learning,” Murray said.

ACBSP has 1,097 member campuses representing 531 different institutions, including 154 member campuses from outside the United States, and has offices in Overland Park, Kan. and Brussels, Belgium.
