Input sought on property tax abatements

Letter from Allen County Council President Larry Brown:

July 16, 2012

Recently the Allen County Council and the Fort Wayne Common Council formed a joint committee to discuss property tax abatement or what has also been known as property tax phase-in. The purposes of this joint committee are to investigate potential recommendations to city and county policies on tax phase-in and to better define the goal of providing a tax phase-in. The committee is also focusing on:
[li]Best practices from surrounding communities and states[/li]
[li]Property tax phase—in for professional service companies[/li]
[li]Compliance monitoring processes[/li]
[li]City and county application review systems[/li]
Below are links to city, county, and state regulations on property tax phase-in:

[li]Indiana Code 6-1.1-12.1:[/li]

The committee is requesting input from all interested parties as to what they believe the goal for tax phase-in should be. Please submit a written reply no later than Friday, August 31, 2012. Your written reply can be submitted through email or regular mail at the addresses below:
