Update: Victim Identities

Date/Time of Incident: July 12th, 2012/ 9:26 p.m.

Location of Incident: 4800 Gaywood Dr.

Victims: Kenaveya Williams, female, age 3, Fort Wayne; remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Quantae A. Jackson, male, age 18, Fort Wayne; last reported to be in fair condition.

Investigators with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department continued to interview witnesses to this incident through the night, and Crime Scene Technicians have processed the scene for potential evidence. At this time, preliminary investigation indicates that there was a gathering of people outside of a home in the 4800 block of Gaywood Drive, and that at least one male subject walked into the area and fired several times upon the people gathered on the front porch and in the front yard of this home. An adult male, Quantae A. Jackson, who was seated on the front porch of the home, was struck by gunfire. He is reportedly in fair condition at this time. Also struck by gunfire was a young child, Kenaveya Williams, who was playing in the front yard of the home. She remains hospitalized in critical condition. There is no known relationship between the two shooting victims, and neither shooting victim resided at the home where this incident occurred. The suspect(s) reportedly fled the scene on foot, northbound.

Preliminary investigation further indicates a possible motive for the shooting as being gang-related. Investigators have some leads at this time which they are following, and they are asking that anyone with information about this incident contact the City of Fort Wayne Police Department at 260 427-1222. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 800-237-STOP or 260-436-STOP (7867) where a cash reward is possible for information received.

This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. There is nothing further at this time.

On Thursday, July 12th, 2012 at 9:26 p.m., the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4800 block of Gaywood Dr. reference a reported shooting. Officers arrived on the scene and located a juvenile female and an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where the female remains in critical condition and the male remains in stable condition.

At this time it is believed a group of people, including the victims, were standing in a yard at the intersection of Gaywood Dr and E. Maple Grove Ave. An unknown group of males approached, and began shooting at the group standing in the yard. The adult male and juvenile female were struck by gunfire.

Investigators are currently interviewing possible witnesses and are canvassing the area for evidence. There is no one in custody at this time nor have any motives been established. It is not unknown at this time if the female child was targeted or not.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information reference this incident is asked to contact the City of Fort Wayne Police or Crime Stoppers.
