2012 Mad Anthonys Charity Classic raises $140,000 for Children’s Hope House
(July 13, 2012) — A first-ever host, a new format and a field full of the LPGA’s most accomplished and promising young players all contributed to the 2012 Mad Anthonys Charity Classic raising $140,000 for the Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House, the highest total for the event in more than a decade. Mad Anthonys officials presented the Children’s Hope House with a check for the record amount Wednesday evening.
“We are so excited to see the excitement from this year’s new format and expanded field have such a positive impact on the money we are able to raise for the Children’s Hope House,” Eric Ottinger, president of the Mad Anthonys, said. “And the opportunities to support Children’s Hope House don’t end here. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Bruce Dye, who has pledged up to $350,000 in matching funds for a much-needed expansion of the facility, we want to continue to bring in every penny we can up until the match ends on August 18.”
The new format for the Charity Classic this year brought to Fort Wayne 12 of the LPGA’s best players, and the event also featured its first-ever host, Fort Wayne native and LPGA pro Amanda Blumenherst. The two-day event saw the 12 pros compete for a $300,000 purse at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
“What an incredible honor it was to serve as the host of this year’s Charity Classic, and I am so grateful to be able to help raise this money for the Children’s Hope House,” Blumenherst said. “As a Fort Wayne native, it is so encouraging to see that, year after year, the Mad Anthonys membership and all of our region steps up to support this event, including our title sponsor, Heritage Food Service.”
“This amount raised through the Charity Classic is such a testament to the support our region has in our organization and provides us with key operational support,” Cindy Atkinson, executive director of Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House, added. “On behalf of all the families we serve, we are so incredibly thankful to Amanda, her fellow LPGA pros, the Mad Anthonys and the people of northeast Indiana for their continued support.”
