TinCaps Look to Fans to Rally to Help Save Lives with the American Red Cross
Fourth annual community blood drive to take place at Parkview Field

The Fort Wayne TinCaps are asking fans to rally up to help save lives on Monday, July 16, to try to boost the blood supply as they host a special blood drive at Parkview Field. The American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June. This shortfall leaves the Red Cross with half the readily available blood products on hand now than this time last year.

The Red Cross is calling on all eligible blood donors – now more than ever – to roll up a sleeve and give as soon as possible. All blood types are needed, but especially O positive, O negative, B negative and A negative in order to meet patient demand this summer.

The TinCaps blood drive will take place on Monday, July 16, from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Parkview Field in the Lincoln Financial Event Center, located on the right field concourse. Come to donate and receive a ticket to that night’s TinCaps game and an American Red Cross commemorative t-shirt. Donors will also enjoy live music and discounted food at Parkview Field from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. courtesy of the TinCaps.

“The Red Cross is excited to once again partner with the Fort Wayne TinCaps to help boost our blood supply this summer,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “This summer has been an unusually difficult time to collect blood. Natural disasters, unseasonably warm temperatures and a mid-week July Fourth holiday have resulted in almost half the amount of readily available blood in the Red Cross inventory now than there was at this point in time last year. We must rely on businesses and the community to help ensure an adequate blood supply during this critical time,” said Whitman.

“The TinCaps are excited to get another chance to partner with the American Red Cross,” said Michael Limmer, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. “We’d love to see everyone come out to Parkview Field to give blood through the Red Cross and help save lives in the community and across the country. A TinCaps ticket is the least we can do to thank people for helping to save a life.”

Parking is available from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Silver Lot, located at the corner of Brackenridge and Ewing Streets across from the Main Gate. Paid parking is also available in the Harrison Square Parking Garage or use nearby meter parking for $0.25 per hour.
