News release from PETA:
Parkview Field ranked sixth on PETA’s 2012 list of the top 10 vegetarian-friendly ballparks
Black-Bean Burger and Veggie Burrito Put the Home of the TinCaps on the Minor League List(July 9, 2012) — Today’s baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So, for the 6th straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks in the minor leagues, and for the first time, Parkview Field, home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, has grabbed sixth place in the minors.
“Parkview Field might host the minor leagues, but when it comes to the delicious health-, Earth-, and animal-friendly food offered at its concession stands, it’s a major league player all the way,” says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. “Even before the first pitch is thrown out, the TinCaps are a big winner in our book.”
Leading off the lineup at Parkview Field are the black-bean burger, veggie burrito, and vegetable wraps. Batting cleanup are the nutritious fresh fruit, hummus and veggies, grilled vegetables, and standby salads.
Coming in first is Hammond Stadium, home of Florida’s Fort Myers Miracle. Its specialties include vegan cheeseburgers and veggie tacos. Rounding out the top five minor league ballparks are the Rochester Red Wings’ Frontier Field, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the Wilmington Blue Rocks’ Daniel S. Frawley Stadium, and the Tulsa Drillers’ ONEOK Field. Finishing in first place in the major leagues is the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park, whose BBQ veggie “Pit Beef,” vegan chicken-steak, and faux-chicken patty sandwich put the Phils over the top for the fifth time in the past six years.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
