Salvation Army Kicks Off Operation Cool Breeze Program
Fans Needed to Help Needy Families Beat the Heat(June 29, 2012) – The Salvation Army Fort Wayne is in urgent need of fans and air conditioners for low-income individuals with critical medical conditions who must stay cool during the heat of summer. Many area doctors have been calling to request air conditioners and fans for their patients with conditions such as asthma, COPD, emphysema, heart problems or other terminal illnesses.
New fans, working air-conditioners, and monetary donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Fort Wayne office, located at 2901 N. Clinton Street, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additionally, all Fort Wayne Walgreen’s stores have agreed to collect supplies. If making a monetary donation, please indicate that the funds are to help with “Operation Cool Breeze.”
Timothy Smith, Social Service Director for The Salvation Army Fort Wayne adds, “Individuals with critical medical conditions desperately need to stay cool during the summer. It can be a matter of life and death. Please help us provide this much needed relief for them.”
Editor’s Note: If you are in need, you can contact The Salvation Army Fort Wayne to apply to receive one of these fans. In order to be eligible, you must have a critical medical condition aggravated by the heat. This needs to be verified by a doctor. In addition, if you have received assistance from us before you will not be eligible this year, and you must not qualify for CANI ‘s energy assistance (meet 150% of poverty level qualifications)cooling program.
