Storm Update: Progress Continues on Storm Clean-Up, Restoration

The City of Fort Wayne continues to direct resources to removing storm debris, restoring traffic and keeping residents safe, in the aftermath of Friday’s storm.

Mayor Henry has been in constant contact with officials at Indiana Michigan Power, relaying concerns of residents and encouraging them to expend all available resources to restore power. As 30,000 Fort Wayne area residents remain without power, Mayor Tom Henry continued his commitment to keeping cooling centers open and working to remove trees from streets.

“While the Fourth of July is a holiday I know there are still many needs in the community. Our staff will be providing emergency support, restoring traffic signals and providing safe places for residents to cool down,” said Mayor Henry.”

Three cooling centers will remain open on July 4, 2012.

Debris Clean Up

Today, the City posted a map of the curbside debris pick-up schedule on the front page of its website. The map is shaded, showing residents the status of debris collection in their area. The map is to let residents know when their areas are being picked-up.

The debris should be left at the street curb for collection. Residents should not place the debris in the ally. Branches will not be picked-up with normal garbage collection.

For immediate disposal, residents are encouraged to take debris to one of four drop off sites:
