The Salvation Army kicks off Tools for School program

News release from the Salvation Army:

The Salvation Army Kicks Off Tools for School Program
Send local children back to school fully stocked with the supplies for success!

(June 18, 2012) – With summer in full swing, the last thing most children have on their mind is the start of classes in the fall. But the Salvation Army likes to think ahead with the kickoff of their Tools for School program. And they can’t do it without you!

The Tools for School program focuses on assisting local families in need by providing their children with book bags, pens, pencils, markers and all the supplies needed when sending students in grades K-12 back to school.

Your family or organization can be a vital part of this program’s success. By collecting and donating school supplies for Tools for School, you will provide over 1,500 children the opportunity to head to school with confidence and a full backpack.

“Heading back to school is stressful enough for children without having to worry about not having the right supplies,” Timothy Smith, Social Service Director for the Salvation Army Fort Wayne, said. “We want to equip children with the tools they need, and give them a fresh outlook on what they can achieve.”

Donations are received through collection barrels that have been placed outside of many local businesses, and a list of needed items is attached to this release.

Distribution days for they supplies will be August 14-16, and families who wish to benefit from the Tools for School program can apply at that time. Those who meet the qualifications of the program will receive their supplies immediately after their application has been approved.
