Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana Seeking Barr Street Market Vendors

As the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI) prepares for the eighth season of its Barr Street Market, the organization is seeking vendors to fill the market’s lineup this summer.

The Barr Street Market, which runs July 7 through September 15, 2012, is a producer-only market, meaning vendors personally make or grow the products they sell. Every vendor is local, coming from Allen or surrounding counties. Since YLNI revived the market eight years ago, the number of vendors has grown from four to more than 20 each week.

“We have been pleased with the amount of growth over the years and would be happy to have as many vendors as possible be part of the experience this year,” said Daniel Douglas, chair of YLNI’s Barr Street Market, which is run entirely by volunteers.

Throughout the past few years, vendors have sold products like fresh and unique local produce, plants, meats, baked goods and homemade crafts in a cultural setting. This year, vendors will have the opportunity to sell their products from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne on the corner of Wayne and Barr streets.

YLNI, a group of young professionals, aims to use community, professional and social engagement to make a positive impact on the places in which they live and work. The Barr Street Market is just one of the many ways YLNI demonstrates its commitment to engaging the local community. Attracting more than 5,000 visitors in a 12-week period, Barr Street Market was voted Fort Wayne’s Best Farmer’s Market in 2010.

“The market draws shoppers from across the region, which provides an excellent opportunity for vendors to showcase their products,” said Douglas. “YLNI looks forward to what this summer has in store and encourages as many people as possible to be part of our special tradition for northeast Indiana.”
