Mayor Henry Fills Key Administrative Position
Becker brings Community Knowledge and Economic ExpertiseMayor Tom Henry is pleased to announce that Mark Becker has accepted the position of Deputy Mayor for the City of Fort Wayne.
“Mark has a wealth of knowledge in economic and community development. His ability to bring stakeholders together to reach a consensus is remarkable. I’m glad to have him back in the City administration,” said Mayor Henry.
Becker’s proven management capabilities in key areas such as economic development and job growth fit well with Mayor Henry’s agenda to keep Fort Wayne a place where businesses can prosper, good jobs can grow and families can thrive.
Most recently, Becker worked as Executive Director of the Northeast Indiana Fund, the agency that oversees management of the charitable foundation that provides support to the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership – the primary economic development marketing organization for the 10-county Northeast Indiana region.
He served as Deputy Mayor from 2005 to 2008, including the transition period between the Richard and Henry Administrations. From 2001 to 2005, he served as Director of Community Development and as Director of Economic Development under the Moses and Helmke Administrations.
As Deputy Mayor, Becker played an integral part in realizing the vision of Harrison Square and initiated and co-chaired Plan-it Allen, the first joint Allen County-Fort Wayne Comprehensive Land Use and Development Plan in our community’s history.
“Fort Wayne and our region have gained significant momentum in the past several years, due in no small measure to a strengthened commitment to a common vision and collaboration,” said Mark Becker, Deputy Mayor. “The City’s leadership and innovation have been pivotal to that progress. I’m very honored to serve Mayor Henry and the people of Fort Wayne, as we work to strengthen our community and build on our momentum.”

The City conducted a nationwide search and received responses from over 50 applicants from 13 states.
Becker will begin his new role on April 2, 2012.
