Parkview, Schools and Health Department Partner on Flu Mist Clinics

(November 9, 2011) — Parkview Hospital’s Community Nursing Department today visited Franke Park Elementary School to give seasonal flu mist vaccinations to students. Parkview is partnering with local schools and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health to vaccinate as many children as possible.

Parkview officials were joined by Mary Hess, health services specialist, Fort Wayne Community Schools and Candy Staadt, immunization supervisor, Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health.

The annual flu mist vaccination program began last week and will continue through the middle of December. To date, 2,300 students have been vaccinated this year. Parkview expects to vaccinate 5,200 students this year. At the end of this year’s program, more than 40,000 will have been vaccinated during the seven years of the partnership between Parkview, local schools and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health.

Parents of students who do not attend any of the participating schools but are interested in having their child vaccinated should contact their health care provider or the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health for vaccination opportunities.
