“Christmas on Broadway” tree lighting – Friday, November, 18, 2011 at 6:00 P.M.
St. Joseph Hospital, Indiana Michigan Power, Imagine Schools and Lake City Bank join Indiana’s NewsCenter, Majic 95.1 WAJI and Shine & Hardin in welcoming forty foot Blue Spruce to the Broadway Plaza
Skyview network cam and MAJIC in the morning team to celebrate the holidays in the neighborhoodsSt. Joseph Hospital has joined Indiana Michigan Power, Imagine Schools, Lake City Bank, Indiana’s NewsCenter, Majic 95.1 WAJI, and Shine & Hardin, LLP as sponsors of Christmas on Broadway, the kickoff of Fort Wayne’s 2011 holiday season on Friday, November 18, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. The spirit of the holidays will fill the air as a 40 foot Blue Spruce, upon which there will be over 14,000 lights, is illuminated at 6:00 p.m. that evening. The celebration is one of the many holiday events sponsored in part by the Downtown Improvement District.
In announcing the participation of St. Joseph Hospital as one of the primary sponsors of “Christmas on Broadway,” Steve Shine, the event coordinator, said that the involvement of St. Joseph Hospital in the celebration is most appreciated and is indicative of the continuing commitment of St. Joseph Hospital to urban community. “St. Joseph Hospital is by far the most prominent landmark on Broadway and, thus, it is most appropriate that both as a “neighbor” and respected leader in the health care field that the hospital’s involvement demonstrates its continuing care for the community,” Shine said.
The tree, which will be delivered to the Broadway Plaza by Mudrack Tree Services on the morning of November 11, 2011 (and which will be televised on 21 Alive), will be put in place by a crane and crew from Harold McComb & Son Construction. During the next seven days until the tree lighting on November 18th, Summit City Electric, Vision Scapes and Exquisite Designs will prepare the tree for illumination, that being no small task given the size of the 40 foot Blue Spruce.
For the remainder of the holiday season, one of Indiana’s NewsCenter’s Skyview Network cameras will be strategically located on the Broadway Plaza, tracking holiday season traffic on one of Fort Wayne’s most traveled corridors, as well as capturing the beauty of the multi-colored 14,000 light Christmas tree. The placement of the Skyview Network camera in a portion of the core of the urban community demonstrates the importance to Indiana’s NewsCenter of the thousands of residents and small businesses that comprise this portion of our community.
The Majic in the Morning team from MAJIC 95.1 WAJI, will be broadcasting live from the Broadway Plaza on November 18th, beginning at 5:00 p.m., and will be providing regular traffic updates that evening to help facilitate easy access for those driving to and from the event.
The tree lighting will be preceded by live holiday music, featuring the Imagine School Chorus and the crowd favorite, the Holiday Jazz Ensemble. Holiday food and beverages will be provided, as well as an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus and their live reindeer. The Polar Express will also provide train rides for the children throughout the evening.
“This is the seventh straight year for our “Christmas on Broadway” holiday celebration and our expectations are that it will be the best yet. The Christmas tree is a “gift” to the surrounding neighborhoods that comprise an important part of the Broadway Corridor, those being the Creighton-Home Neighborhood Association, Historic South Wayne Neighborhood Association, Historic Oakdale Neighborhood Association, Fairfield Neighborhood Association, Illsley Place Neighborhood Association, and Williams-Woodland Neighborhood Association.
The many businesses that help defray the costs of this event are most appreciated, especially in these difficult economic times, where their discretionary funds, if any, could otherwise be spent on “recession proofing” their businesses. Instead, these corporate citizens have remained committed to maintaining and building the strength of our community’s families and neighborhoods. These businesses have donated their time, effort, and financial resources to continue to make this much anticipated event a reoccurring celebration of the holiday season and to keep their commitment to help maintain a strong urban core of our great city.” Shine said.
