Historic Tower Bank to Host 8Th Annual Wine Opener Event to “Uncork a Cure” in Fort Wayne
The Indiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis announces it will be the beneficiary of the 8th Annual Lutheran Health Network Fort Wayne Wine Opener, presented by the Mary Cross Tippman Foundation and the Robert Goldstine Foundation. The Wine Opener, taking place on Saturday, November 19th from 7:00 p.m. til 10:00 p.m. features not only a wide variety of wines and gourmet cuisine, but also the lobby of the breathtakingly beautiful Downtown Tower Bank, 116 E. Berry Street.
Completed in 1930, at 22 stories and 312 feet tall, The Lincoln Tower, headquarters of Tower Bank, was Indiana’s tallest buildings. Designed by architects A.M. Strauss and Walker & Weeks, the Art Deco building originally cost $1,300,000. The main lobby featured during the Wine Opener, is 85 feet wide, 110 feet long and two stories high. Art deco murals symbolizing the various elements of nature and the signs of the zodiac complement the elaborate brass and bronze panels.
This 8th annual event is intended to reach the growing audience of wine enthusiasts and offer this niche group a new and inventive way to raise valuable funds for cystic fibrosis (CF) earmarked for research and CF care.
CF is a genetic disease that affects approximately 600 people in Indiana. A defective gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that leads to chronic and life-threatening lung-infections and impairs digestion. When the CF Foundation was created in 1955, few children lived to attend elementary school. Today, because of the research and care supported by the CF Foundation through money raised at events such as the Fort Wayne Wine Opener, the median age of survival for a person with CF is 37 years.
In addition to the opportunity to enjoy this unique and historic venue, guests will be offered samples of a variety of wines provided by Lebamoff’s Cap N Cork and Bare Foot Wines. Strategically placed tasting stations feature gourmet cuisine and other fine food presented by Joseph Decuis, Bandido’s, Club Soda, Catablu, Mad Anthony’s, Goeglein’s Catering, DeBrand’s Fine Chocolates and Blondie’s Cookies. A silent auction with unique offerings from a variety of locales in Indiana is also featured.
“From wine novices to seasoned wine enthusiasts, The Wine Opener is a festive evening for everyone. Our aim is to create an event that offers attendees an atmosphere where they can sip new wines, sample creative fare and savor the gorgeous environment that is the Tower Bank main lobby,” said event Chair Person, Carolyn Schenkel.
Tickets for the Lutheran Health Network Fort Wayne Wine Opener are $55.00 and includes all food and wine as well as a keepsake wine glass. The VIP reception held beginning at 5:30 p.m. includes the same as a main event ticket but also a private food and wine tasting with the opportunity to view the silent auction packages before the more than 400 main event guests arrive.
