Tom Henry for Mayor campaign releases new ad: “Leadership”

(October 21, 2011) – Today the Tom Henry for Mayor campaign released a new TV ad, “Leadership.” The spot highlights Mayor Henry’s strong record of accomplishments: keeping city finances strong by holding spending flat every year and keeping us on track to pay down 40 percent of city debt by 2015 while continuing to provide quality city services to residents.

The ad will begin airing on all major Fort Wayne stations starting today alongside our other TV ad “Falling.”

Who can we trust with Fort Wayne’s future?
Tom Henry.

He’s held city spending flat for four straight years by doing more with less. "Mayor Henry presents flat 2012 budget," Sheckler, News-Sentinel, 9/24/11
Crediting sound fiscal planning, Mayor Tom Henry on Friday proposed a 2012 budget that he said will keep spending flat without cutting services …

City officials expect the $180.4 million plan – down a little less than 2 percent from the 2011 budget – to also allow the city to pay down $16 million in debt through 2012.

"Solid city finances," Editorial, Journal Gazette, 7/14/2011
"Note, too, that the city has spent less than budgeted for each of the past three years."

Protected vital services like police and fire
"EDITORIAL: State of the City," Journal Gazette, 1/31/2011
This is no small achievement that residents unfamiliar with other cities may not recognize…The administration is moving several projects forward while continuing to deliver city services while many other Indiana cities cannot even keep up with the basics.

and snow removal.
"Blizzard response could benefit Henry," Warner, Journal Gazette, 2/3/2011
The city really does have this down to a science… But when the goal is to keep major streets open, street crews once again rose to the occasion, keeping the arteries passable throughout the blizzard that dumped nearly a foot of snow on the city…. city plows began hitting the secondary streets Wednesday morning, a remarkably quick turnaround…

And cut garbage fees by $1 million
"Garbage and Recycling Program Saves Fort Wayne $1 Million" INC, 7/28/11

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry said today that the garbage and recycling program has cut waste cost by $1 million.

Mayor Henry said that the programs are costing less, but generating more than expected.
Henry said this is a tremendous accomplishment.

“Our success is due in large part to the growing interest in our recycling program. Initial estimates set participation at 34-percent. But today, 68-percent of Fort Wayne residents are recycling,” Mayor Henry said.

Henry said recycling has generated half a million dollars because there is less garbage going into landfills. The other half a million was generated by utilizing the competitive bidding process in awarding garbage contracts.

While putting the city on track to pay down existing debt 40% in four years.
"2010 CAFR and City Finances Executive Summary," Ft. Wayne City Controller, 7/12/2011
"Once these issues are accounted for, the city ended 2010 with a net liability of around $176.5 million,
down $13.2 million from 2009’s $189.8 million. Between 1/1/2011 and 12/31/2015 the city will pay off
an additional $73.77 million in principal on outstanding bonds."

"City debt enters mayoral debate," Lanka, Journal Gazette, 8/21/2011
"Henry has said more than 40 percent of the civil city’s debt – not including City Utilities – will be paid off by 2015. Hughes has promised to cut 24 percent of all city debt by the end of her first term."

No wonder the Chamber of Commerce's BizPAC endorses Tom Henry for his leadership.
"Henry gets endorsement of Chamber’s PAC," News-Sentinel, 10/17/11
The political arm of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce will support Democratic Mayor Tom Henry in the Nov. 8 election, Henry's campaign announced Monday.

Henry won the endorsement of the Greater Fort Wayne Business Political Action Committee, or BizPAC, a nonpartisan board that – according to its website – supports candidates who are “advocates for limited government, free enterprise and a pro-business, pro-economic growth environment” in the Fort Wayne area.
Tom Henry: he's doing what’s right for Fort Wayne’s future.
