Bats go quiet, TinCaps lose opener, 4-1
Fort Wayne trails Eastern Division Championship Series

By Mike Maahs / Fort Wayne TinCaps, September 11, 2011

After collecting key base hits in posting three consecutive victories over the past six days, the bats went a little bit dry for Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon, as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Lansing, in the opening game of the best-of-three Eastern Division Championship Series at Parkview Field.

[…] Fort Wayne got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the seventh.

Guinn reached first base on a bunt single, stole second base, then came around to score with two outs on Dominguez’ second throwing error of the game, bringing the TinCaps to within 4-1.

That would be as close as they would get, however, as Lugnuts Shawn Griffith and Danny Barnes each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the victory.

[…] Fort Wayne now travels to Lansing in hopes of both evening the best-of-three series at a win apiece, as well as keeping their season alive, on Monday night. They will send right-hander Zach Cates (4-10, 4.73) to the mound.

Cates will be opposed by Lugnut right hand pitcher Aaron Sanchez (0-0, 0.00), just called up by Lansing from Vancouver (Short-Season-A) of the Northwest League.

If the TinCaps are successful and force a winner-take-all third game of the series, it will also take place in Lansing on Tuesday night, with both Monday and Tuesday’s games beginning at 7:05 p.m. (Fort Wayne time).
