Lugar Hosts 3rd Annual Collegiate Energy Summit at IMA
(August 29, 2011) – Sen. Dick Lugar will host the 3rd Annual Lugar Collegiate Energy Summit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) on Friday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The day-long summit is designed to engage, motivate and encourage collegiate student leaders in an effort to make a difference in America’s energy security.
“Indiana is home to many of the best and brightest students in the nation and it is important we utilize their talents and intellect in planning for America’s future,” said Lugar. “We are excited to continue offering the Collegiate Energy Summit as an opportunity for students to learn from one another and be energized in their efforts to lead America toward a more secure and sustainable energy program.”
Students will have the opportunity to learn about energy technology and policy from other students, as well as community and business leaders. Featured workshops are Energy Solutions: Moving from Idea to Reality; Energy and Beyond: Bring Sustainability to Any Job; Public Policy: Current Issues in Energy Policy; and Strengthening and Growing Your Club. There will also be three lunchtime discussions available.
Lugar will serve as the keynote speaker at the Summit. Additionally, five student groups will showcase energy projects at the event and a networking session with innovative Hoosier businesses and organizations will be available. Student leaders are encouraged to engage with business and organization leaders regarding possible joint projects, as well as potential internship and employment opportunities.
The Summit is open to all Indiana college students and is free of charge. Meals are not included, however, lunch will be available at the Nourish Café in the IMA and adequate time will be allotted for off-campus lunches. To ensure adequate space, students are encouraged to register by September 14. Walk-in registration is also available beginning at 9:30 a.m. on September 16 at the IMA.
The Lugar Collegiate Energy Summit began in 2009 with more than 25 campuses across Indiana participating in the inaugural event. Since then, hundreds of collegians and dozens of businesses have participated in the Summit.
