IPFW Announces 2011-2012 Omnibus Lecture Season
Celebrating 100 Lectures 1995-2012(August 29, 2011) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) Omnibus Lecture Series, in its 17th year, celebrates 100 lectures dedicated to presenting diverse ideas and respected speakers to northeast Indiana. Since 1995 all lectures have been free and open to the public. The 100th lecture occurs in April 2012. This special event will be announced in March. Don’t miss it!

Mitch Daniels, Governor of Indiana
Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans
Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, 7 p.m.NOTE: This lecture is scheduled 30 minutes earlier than all other lectures.
Mitch Daniels has served as Indiana’s governor since 2004. Prior to his public service, Daniels enjoyed a successful career in business as CEO of the Hudson Institute and president of Eli Lilly’s North American pharmaceutical operations. He served as chief of staff to Senator Richard Lugar, senior advisor to President Ronald Reagan, and director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush. Among numerous honors, Daniels was named “Public Official of the Year” by the independent magazine Governing. He has recently authored a book, Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans.

Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld is an internationally distinguished expert in cardiology and gerontology. His contributions to his field are recognized the world over. He appears every Sunday as a medical contributor on Fox News’ Housecalls. Rosenfeld is a practicing physician and the Distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to the advisory committee of the White House Conference on Aging.

Raddatz has covered the State Department, Foreign Affairs, National Security, and the White House for ABC News. She was the Pentagon correspondent for National Public Radio (NPR). Raddatz is the author of the bestseller The Long Road Home—a Story of War and Family. She is a frequent guest on PBS’s Washington Week and Charlie Rose.

Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, 7:30 p.m.Michelle Norris is an award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience. Since 2002, Norris has hosted NPR’s newsmagazine All Things Considered, public radio’s longest-running national program. Norris has also contributed to World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times. A four-time Pulitzer Prize entrant, Norris has received numerous awards for her work, including an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award. Last year, Norris released her first book, The Grace of Silence: A Memoir, which focuses on America’s discussions on race since the inauguration of President Barack Obama, as well as her own family’s racial legacy.
Diane Ravitch, Education Historian

Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 7:30 p.m.Research professor of education at New York University, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., longtime historian, and analyst of education, Diane Ravitch was an early proponent of accountability. She now believes that it actually undermines American education. Ravitch co-writes the blog Bridging Differences and also blogs for Politico.com and the Huffington Post. She served in the U.S. Department of Education under Presidents George H.W. Bush and William Clinton. Ravitch lectures about education reform extensively in the U.S. and abroad. She has authored many books, including The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education, and written more than 500 articles and reviews for scholarly and popular publications.

Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures and must be picked up in person at the Schatzlein Box Office located in the lobby of the Rhinehart Music Center, Monday through Friday, 12:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets will be available three weeks prior to each event.
The Omnibus Lecture Series has been supported by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation since 1995.
The 2011-2012 Season media sponsors are WANE-TV NewsChannel 15 and Northeast Indiana Public Radio.
Each lecture will be held on the IPFW campus in The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center’s 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall. Doors open one hour before the each lecture. Campus parking is free and convenient. The new 1,000-space parking garage located in the Fine Arts Plaza will be open in mid-October to serve Omnibus audiences. Patrons are advised to allow ample time for traffic and parking, as the series and other events on campus may draw large crowds.
The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center is located on the north end of campus in the arts plaza next to the Ernest E. Williams Theatre and the Visual Arts Building, and behind the Medical Education Center.
