UC2 2011 Fall Season Begins with Reflections on 9/11
(August 24, 2011) – “9/11: Reflections on Ten Turbulent Years” is the first University Community Conversation (UC2) for the 2011 fall semester. The moderated panel discussion will take place Wednesday, September 7, at 7 p.m. in Neff Hall, Room 101. It is free and open to the public.
The program will feature two panels of experts consisting of faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) moderated by Andrew Downs, assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and director of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics. The first panel will discuss the social/cultural changes related to 9/11, and the second panel will discuss changes in foreign policy and international relations. The forum will then be opened to questions from the audience.
The experts on the first panel are Associate Professor Stephen Carr and Assistant Professor Assem Nasr, both of the Department of Communication, and Associate Professor Quinton Dixie of the Department of Philosophy. The second panel consists of Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science James Lutz, Assistant Professor Jeffrey Malanson of the Department of History, and Associate Professor Jamie Toole, also of the Department of Political Science.
UC2 is a community engagement program sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and features a wide variety of related events each year, all centered on a specific theme. This year’s theme is “The Promise and Problems of Democracy.”
UC2 sponsors regular events featuring university and/or community speakers. The program regularly incorporates the latest digital resources and social media to initiate, expand, and sustain community conversations.
