News release from TekVenture:

TekVenture Announces Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire

The Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® Powered by TekVenture is a 2-day family-friendly event occurring October 1 & 2, 2011 at Headwaters Park East under the Lincoln Pavilion. The FWR Maker Faire® is born of a partnership with Make magazine (https://makezine.com/), a quarterly publication documenting the national maker movement.

Make is much like a 21st Century Popular Mechanics and recently rolled out a television show on the Create Channel. The advantage of this partnership is to leverage the reach of Make through online and print exposure to its national audience of makers while connecting TekVenture and the NE Indiana region to the international maker scene.

“I am so geeked to learn Fort Wayne is going to have a hacker space and I can’t wait for the Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire”, said Ed DeWitt, Senior Engineering Analyst at Navistar International upon learning of the event.

Over 100 makers are anticipated to participate. The Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® is unique in that most exhibitors will actually be making something in their space. The goal is to create an environment where makers connect with one another and the general public can connect with the maker movement through these creative and innovative people while learning their problem-solving processes.

The event will include attractions that will draw public interest; hands-on learning opportunities such as a soldering workshop; seminars on pertinent topics; TinkerTown, a place for young makers 4 -14; food, and entertainment. If interested in becoming a maker, volunteering time, or sponsorship opportunities, visit www.tekventure.org to learn more.

We invite you to stimulate innovation in our region by helping TekVenture launch the inaugural Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire® to showcase regional makers and raise funds for TekVenture.

About TekVenture
TekVenture is a 501(c) 3 public art and technology laboratory being developed in the near downtown area. The goal is to create a public intersection between imagination, technology, art & community – a space where artists, tinkers, makers, engineers, inventors, prototypers, craftspeople, and others gather to use tools, share ideas and make things.

These “makers” represent a movement happening all across the United States. In the last few years, similar informal facilities designed to bring groups of people together to use traditional and high-tech tools to solve engineering problems and to create art, technology, and other projects have blossomed worldwide. While searching for a permanent home, and to inform the public about TekVenture, we are developing the FWR Maker Faire®, a regional gathering celebrating these creative people and the things they make.
