Ivy Tech Community College reaches another enrollment record
Enrollment increases by 73 percent over last seven years.

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Ivy Tech Community College continues to post record enrollment numbers with 113,205 students enrolled statewide for classes on Monday. That number is expected to grow even more as the college is still enrolling for 12 week classes beginning next month and 8 week classes beginning in October.

Ivy Tech’s first day Fall enrollment has grown quickly over the last seven years, with first day enrollment numbers at 65,300 in 2005 and growing to 113,205 this year, an increase of 73 percent or 47,905 students in just seven years.

Of the total number of students enrolled for this Fall term, 29,121 are new, first-time students to the college. Ivy Tech’s total number of new, first-time freshman this year exceeds the total enrollment of many other public colleges, such as Ball State University, the University of Southern Indiana and Vincennes University.

Ivy Tech’s annualized credit enrollment has also skyrocketed over the last 10 years, more than doubling from 81,940 in 2000-01 to more than 170,000 in 2010-11.

“The college is dedicated to making sure Indiana residents have access to the community college and we are focused on ensuring the success of our students,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder said. “We are starting to see some capacity challenges both with adequate numbers of faculty and student service staff to handle the continued growth, along with physical constraints at some locations.”

The College is currently enrolling students for 8 and 12 week courses in parts of the state and enrollment for Spring 2012 is already well under way. Students and applicants are encouraged not to wait to enroll for future terms.

Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
