News release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Commissioners’ String of Budget Reductions Continues in 2012
Board’s proposed spending drops for sixth consecutive year

(August 12, 2011) — For the sixth year in a row, the Allen County Board of Commissioners will propose spending less of the taxpayers’ money than the year before.

The Commissioners today filed their proposed 2012 general fund budget with County Council. It calls for spending $2.04 million next year, a reduction of $74,600 compared to the budget that was submitted for 2011.

“We are pleased to present our 2012 budget to the County Council, which meets its requested cut,” said Commissioner Nelson Peters, president of the Board. “Despite the reduction, our budget will allow us to continue to serve our citizens in the most cost-effective manner possible.”

Over the last six budget years, the Board of Commissioners has offered up spending reductions totaling nearly $795,000.

“Next year’s proposed budget is 38.5 percent less than what was budgeted by Commissioners in 2005,” Peters noted. “Our push to be more efficient, reductions in staffing and the goodwill of our vendors have enabled us to make these cuts over the years.”
