From Visit Fort Wayne:

Join us for the 9/11 Stair Climb and Public Safety Day on September 11, 2011 at Parkview Field

The day will start with opening ceremonies beginning at 8 a.m., followed by the Stair Climb beginning at 8:46 a.m. corresponding to the time the first plane hit the North Tower.

Participation in the Stair Climb will require pre-registration and will be limited to 403 participants- the number of firefighters and police officers that lost their lives on 9/11. All pre-registered climbers will be assigned to organized heat times and will receive a 9/11 Stair Climb memorial t-shirt. Registration is $10 and all proceeds benefit the FWFD/FWPD Fallen Hero Fund.

Many other family friendly activities are planned throughout the day in and around Parkview Field. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., meet and greet the men and women representing many public safety agencies from throughout Allen County. Learn more about their jobs with interactive demonstrations, apparatus show and tell and safety education.

The Fort Wayne Police Department will introduce a 9/11 Throw Down, a CrossFit fitness challenge. The 9/11 Throw Down is a core strength and conditioning fitness program utilized by public safety departments throughout the country whose choreography, counts and repetitions are indicative to times, dates and numbers relating to 9/11 events.

This 9/11 Stair Climb and Public Safety Appreciation event is part of a larger effort by Visit Fort Wayne and their “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown”. This annual event provides the public free admission into the downtown attractions/museums beginning at noon. The 9/11 Stair Climb kicks off the day.
