News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Cooler Temperatures bring Cooling Centers to a Close

After six days in operation Fort Wayne’s cooling centers will close tonight. Cooler evening temperatures are expected tonight and the last cooling center at the Cooper Teen Center will close at 9:00 PM.

This week more than 200 residents were able to get relief from the heat at the City’s cooling centers. Mayor Tom Henry requested the centers be open after a heat wave entered the area on Monday.

“I’m glad residents were able to take advantage of the air conditioned facilities,” Mayor Henry said. “I would like to extend my appreciation to the Wal-Mart at Southtown, Kroger at Southgate and the Community Harvest Food Bank for their donations of water and snacks to residents who came to the centers.”

Earlier in the week cooling centers were open at the Community Center and the Public Safety Academy.
