I&M storm update as of 3:58 pm.

Indiana and Michigan Power reminds everyone to stay away from downed power lines.

A severe thunderstorm packing wind gusts in excess of 80 miles per hour resulted in wide-spread service interruptions and damage to I&M electric delivery systems in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.

I&M continues to assess damage as crews begin to restore service to customers. Crews from outside the I&M service territory have been called to assist with restoration efforts.

Restoration efforts will take several days in southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana. I&M currently estimates restoration in Michigan to take until Friday evening. For the greater South Bend area, I&M estimates restoration to continue into Thursday evening. In the Elkhart area, restoration will continue through Wednesday evening. And in northeast Indiana, restoration will continue through noon on Tuesday.
