Getting to Know Daylilies
SATURDAY , July 9, 9:30 – 10:30 am
With an almost limitless number of cultivars, daylilies are some of the most beautiful and popular flowers in the world. Kathy Lee, from the Fort Wayne Daylily Society, will introduce you to many varieties of these gardener-friendly plants and will share her tips and techniques for identifying the flowers, planning a daylily bed and propagating the plants when you’re ready for more. She will also show off many of the more interesting types on display at the Fort Wayne Daylily Society’s annual show. At the end of the program, you’ll even receive your own daylily fan for your home garden. Ages 12+. Registration deadline: July 1. $5/public; $4/Conservatory member. To register, call (260) 427-6011 or go online at www.fortwayneparks.org.

Container Gardening for Everyone
Thursday, July 14, 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Would you like to have fresh herbs in the middle of winter? How about making your own salsa? If you live in an apartment or simply have no room for a traditional garden, a container garden might be just what you need. Bruce Ruch, President of the Grant County Master Gardeners Association, will show you how to make a garden out of just about any container you have on hand. He will also share his extensive knowledge about how to maintain your plants, keep them from drying out, the importance of proper insulation and many other ideas to get you started in container gardening. Ages 12+. Registration deadline: July 8. $7/public; $4/Conservatory member. To register, call (260) 427-6011 or go online at www.fortwayneparks.org.

Botanical Brown Bag – Rhizome Roundup
Thursday, July 28, 12 – 1 pm
Look beneath the surface of many popular plants like irises, ginger, or bamboo and you’ll find a rhizome. These long extensions of the stem are great for helping plants survive and thrive, but after a few years they can get tangled, causing your plants to stop blooming. Conservatory volunteer Kathy Lee will share what you need to know to get the most out of this special type of plant and will even provide a starter rhizome for you to take home. Free coffee and tea. No reservations needed. Conservatory admission applies: $5/adult, $3/child ages 3-17. Conservatory members admitted free. For more information, call (260) 427-6440.
