FWPD seeks suspect in Fifth Third Bank robbery

News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Date/Time of Incident: June 22, 2011 / 1:09 p.m.
Location of Incident: 202 W. Berry Street
Victim: Fifth Third Bank

Suspect Description: Male, black, with shaved head, 6’1″, slender build, approximate age 25 – 35. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored suit jacket and pants. (Suspect may have red-colored ink on his person or clothing.)

Today, at approximately 1:09 p.m. the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 202 W. Berry Street on a report of a possible bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male subject entered the bank and demanded money using a note. The suspect then fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money, which also contained an exploding dye pack. The dye pack does appear to have detonated; a bundle of bills stained with a red-colored dye was located on the sidewalk on the east side of the building. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect fleeing the area into a nearby alley where he reportedly began to shed his clothing down to a white-colored tank top style shirt.

There was at least one customer inside the bank at the time of this incident. No bank employees or customers were injured during this incident.

Detectives have obtained still images captured from bank surveillance cameras. Anyone with information as to the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260 436-STOP / 260 436-7867.

This incident remains under investigation by the North East Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force. The task force is comprised of members of the following law enforcement agencies: City of Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
